Day 11 - Margaret River - Wine, Chocolate, Cheese & Caves!

Hello again,

Well today we spent the day being very typical tourists and calling into all the major sites and of course the food and wine factories for taste testings!

First stop was the Cheese Factory where we went and tasted many different types of cheeses, we liked all of them which certainly wasn't expected but was a pleasant surprise. We went home with a block of Vintage Cheddar and a block of Sweet Chilli Club Cheddar which were by far our favourites. They had others such as Brie, a type of mozzarella which was beautiful, a marinated fetta and a few others. Margaret River did have 2 Cheese Factories but recently one has burnt down.

After the visit to the cheeses we went to the Mammoth Cave which is just out of Witchcliffe, it is completely self-guide, upon arrival they provide you with a headset and a machine that as you input the numbers throughout your walk, it gives you all the information about what you are seeing. The cave is amazing! It is the size of an 8 story building and is the home of some of the rarest fossils found from many extinct animals. The pure size of it is where its name originated from.

Photos are below of just some of the cave, it took nearly 2 hours to walk right through and just jaw-dropping. At the very end of the cave you have the option to take the long or short walk back to the start both providing stunning views of forestry and rare wildflowers ,we chose to take the short walk as the recent rain has caused the river to come up and the stepping stones were wet and slippery on the big walk,  regardless still a perfect ending to a cave walk.

Home for lunch and a bit of a rest before heading off to the Chocolate Factory!! It is a chocoholics delight by far.. we had a ball. You are greeted with piles and piles of chocolates on tables right through a massive shed and the front a counter which sells you any chocolates you may want and offers tasting of most chocolates there. We scooped up a handful on the Milk Chocolate, Dark Chocolate and White Chocolate but didn't worry with the others, they are different chocolates made locally but have Cocoa from different countries providing many different flavours.
We ended up buying the Milk, White and Macadamia and Milk Chocolate Bars, so we should be all chocolated out by the end of the trip ha-ha.

When we checked into the caravan park we were given a voucher for a free bottle of wine from one of the wineries so we headed down there to collect it, They make the "Mad Fish" Range as well as a few others. We called in and tasted a few of their wines as well as the one we were able to take home, they have amazing wines we both enjoyed many of them. We ended up buying their Sparkling as well.

Headed back to camp as the final winery we wanted to try is just next door, so we walked over, nice wines but no purchases this time.

Now sitting back watching the sun set and the kids in the park running a muck on the jumping pillow, surrounded by chocolate, cheese and wines :)

Tomorrow we head back to Rockingham for a few more days and then the trip North to the Kimberley's begins with the first stop being Mount Magnet on Sunday.

Bye for now!

Rhianna and Anthony.
