Hello Again :)
Well this morning we headed off early from Rockingham on our new adventure toward the Kimberley's, first stop, Mount Magnet.
This morning was absolutely freezing, the tent was totally soaked from dew which made it not only heavy to pack up but totally freezing making it hard as both our hands were numb and frozen trying to pack it down.
Once we left Perth and headed toward Mt Magnet we ended up back on the highway with the big mining trucks again carrying all the large machinery and parts for them, had not seen many if any at all for the last few days.
We were about 20km out of Newnorcia and we fell behind 2 massive trucks carrying 4x tyres for machines each. We switched on the UHF radio to hear if there was anything important we needed to know and we found out they were 3.8 metres wide which put them just over the center line on the road. We had seen bigger ones but never following them.
Soon after we caught up with them, the entire road slowed to a crawl and a new message was being blasted over the UHF radio... this caught our interest instantly and soon after we finally got our first glimpse... photos are below but really you needed to be here to understand the pure size of it.
There were 2x trucks carrying a house or a building we aren't sure which, 1 truck was carrying the entire building and the other was carrying the roof. Measuring 8 meters wide they completely took over the whole road and the message being sent across the UHF was "Get off the road if you are heading South" there was just no way anyone could fit past them and especially not trucks. Because they were so large they were travelling extremely slow and within no time at all there was a freight train of cars, over sized trucks, delivery trucks and anything else you can think of piling up behind us.
We have seen large buildings and things being freighted but generally something as large as this would be split into 2 or 3 parts to be just over the lane not taking over the whole road! It was quite a sight. They were going to pull into a truck bay just further up as the traffic started to build but they couldn't fit! So eventually they pulled over on the edge of the road on the intersection coming into Bindi Bindi where there was lots of space for them to safely get off the road.
That was the only excitement for the entire trip, the road to Mount Magnet from Perth is straight and boring so we were very much looking forward to pulling up for the night.
We arrived safe at about 4pm this afternoon and have set up camp, once again it is just hovering above freezing so once again we are planning how to tackle a cold, wet tent first thing in the morning... Hopefully we find a trick some time soon!
We are heading to Newman tomorrow and no doubt we will have something interesting happen again, but for now, dinner and bed are the only plans :)
Hope everyone is well.
Rhianna and Anthony.
