7am – up and at em’ – wind picked up last night and woke us
all up but harmless as it was high, still around this morning and made for
packing up a nightmare as we were all freezing, so with the resounding echo
from the group of “lets head north and never turn back” we made the decision to
grab brekkie from the servo rather than cook and hit the road. 9am we left
Threeways as our first day as a convoy.
Quick fuel stop and walk around at
Renner Springs, watched the geese in the spring.
Reached Daly Waters at about
1pm for lunch, it was so busy -
everywhere you look along the road there are campers/caravans free camping and
Daly Waters is no exception with cars lining all the streets near the pub and
around the areas.
We found a park and walked down to buy lunch, food was
delicious, beer was cold and company was great. 2.50pm we left Daly Waters and
headed on for Top Springs, pulled over to let air down on tyres as we hit
Buchanan Highway – 182km of unsealed road and it wasn’t a bad road at all with
minimal corrugations but plenty of dust!
We pulled up at Top Springs at 5.15pm
to warmer weather but we haven’t managed to escape the wretched wind yet! Upon
check in the receptionist took us to the camp ground to show us the area that
they had left to put campers before paying, they wanted us to set up camp in
front of a bunch of other people essentially blocking them in with no way of
just picking up a camper trailer tent and moving it when it’s time for them to
leave we asked it we could camp further down at another grassy patch we saw,
after a conversation with management we were approved to camp there and it was
great with enough space for us all to set up with a bit of distance between us
and no issue of being in anyone’s way.
Another fairly early night knowing we have another big day
tomorrow.
