Day 6 – Lake Argyle – El Questro ( Via the Grotto) 14/7/18

9.45am we left the caravan park, we were held up by road works on the run into El Questro for a while. We did a last minute fuel up, and shop for supplies at Kununarra before heading off into the bush for the next 14 days.

About 50km down the road we realised that both of our handheld radios have died and would not turn on no matter what we did, we tried 10 different batteries and Anthony even pulled them apart but nothing is apparently wrong with them, they have just died. Luckily Dad has some radios which he lent to us as he has an installed UHF radio unfortunately they can only be charged with 240 power so when the go flat we are buggered.

We detoured past The Grotto, there were heaps of bushfires around the area but not within where we turned into which was good. The Grotto was 144 steps down to the bottom which gives you a beautiful waterfall and gorge to sit and enjoy. Alexis walked most of the way down and nearly all the way back up, not surprising she fell asleep as soon as we got back in the car! Was a great walk and worth the visit.

We arrived at El Questro at 4pm, it is so busy at the campsite – They do

n’t permit bookings for unpowered sites as they have so many but we had to drive down a fair way to find a decent spot where we could fit. Just after we finished setting up, we realised that Mum and Dad’s kitchen had become stuck inside the camper trailer – it is a slide out kitchen but one of the drawers must have opened along the track and caught in the trailer. Dad said that it had happened once before just after they purchased it and basically had to destroy the drawer to get it out. We had a lovely gentlemen camped behind us who offered to help and also lent Dad a drill as an idea was thrown around that if a hole could be drilled then we could get a wire into the hole to push the drawer closed. 3 men, 3 hours, 5 holes and no success. Thankfully travelling together meant we had 2 kitchens and enough food to organise everything without their kitchen opening for the night.

Hopefully tomorrow we will get Mum and Dad’s kitchen out without breaking it and we will be able to enjoy some down time at El Questro.
