Day 9 – El Questro – Ellenbrae...Umm and suddenly the middle of nowhere...17/7/18

This morning we all woke and packed up early knowing we have a fairly big day with a rough road and the suspension in mum and dads car giving them grief which has slowed them right up on the dirt tracks especially with these corrugations, its slowed us all up recently we are all taking it pretty easy. We had already decided a few days ago that we would do Emma Gorge on the way out so we headed there first and took off on our walk. Mum stayed and relaxed in the shade for a while.

We left on the walk at 11am and we were back by about 2pm they say about 2 hours for the walk  each way, we did well, it wasn’t a hard walk but difficult in some sections, especially seeing as Anthony had Alexis on his back and she is 15kg and I am 7 months pregnant.

Emma Gorge is beautiful, 110m waterfall drops from the top of the ridge and you can sit by the gorge, the water is insanely cold but we had a little wade into it as Alexis really wanted to swim.

We headed off on the Gibb toward Ellenbrae and it was seriously ROUGH, dad is down to 20km/h and we can’t get anything about 70km/h, we stopped at the Pentecost River and let the car cool down and wait for Mum and Dad got some good photos and watched a few others go through, it is deeper than last time we were here but still not over the wheels.

5.30pm we decided to call it quits and set up on the side of the road, it was getting dark and we are still at least an hour and a half away from Ellenbrae. We found a roadside stop but it was badly burnt out and no good to set up camp but we went 5km down the road and found a track leading off to the side of the road which ended up being a gravel pit which was perfect so we waited for Mum and Dad and then went into the Gravel Pit and set up camp for the night – it was a real blessing to find it as it could have been a very difficult hard drive in the dark for as long as we still had to travel.

Tomorrow is another day. We are about 80km from Ellenbrae and all praying that the road ahead improves even slightly but doubtful as we haven’t seen a grader or any sign of any work going on.
